Hello Tomáš, I recently ordered a DNA test from livingDNA (it includes Y-DNA analysis) – it is not done yet. Unfortunately it seems that those results cannot be uploaded to FamilyTreeDNA. I think gedmatch.com would be a more universal approach because it allows uploads from almost every provider.
Hello Alex. Unfortunately, gedmatch.com supports autosomal DNA data uploading only which does not cover Y-DNA, so it is not suitable for this kind of research. I don't know livingDNA but I read it covers only limited amount of SNP on Y-DNA. It allows us to learn the basic haplogroup of your paternal line so we will know if it makes sense to compare our family branches.

I think you can already predict the basic haplogroup from MyHeritage DNA data (because it contains very limited amount of Y SNPs) too using this tool: https://ytree.morleydna.com/extractFromAutosomal

The haplogroup of our Holzinger branch is I-P37>I-CTS10228.

The tool suggests the following:
  • E1b [E-CTS1545 (E-CTS119, E-CTS1446)]
  • E [E-PF1796 (E-PF1476, E-PF1557)]
  • R1 [R-PF6007 (R-F211, R-F378)]
Thank you. Unfortunately it means that our Holzinger families are not connected in the paternal line. Unless there was some illegitimate child that got the surname from the mother. In FamilyTreeDNA project "Germany Y-DNA", there is one Holzinger with predicted haplogroup E1b>E-M35 who could be your close relative.

Hello, I think I already contacted you. I do research on the surname Holzinger. It was the original form of my mother's paternal surname that was then misspelled to Ortcigr. I would like to ask the holders of this surname to take Y-DNA test on FamilyTreeDNA and then join the appropriate project of his haplogroup there. This could reveal how the individual families are connected together and uncover their common ancestry path. I focus mainly on those who have their ancestry from Bohemia, but it could be wonderful if we would be able to connect with some of the many Holzinger (or maybe Hinterholzinger) families in Austria or Bavaria.

Unfortunately, ordinary autosomal DNA test (MyHeritage, Ancestry, FamilyFinder) is not sufficient, because it does not test the paternal line and it has coverage of a few generations back only.
